Equality and Diversity

To place diversity at the heart of all activities

Family is committed to developing a culture which ensures that the people, communities and organisations it works with are treated fairly and equitably and that respects and reflects the diversity of their culture, backgrounds and need.

We have a responsibility to ensure that equality of opportunity and effective management of diversity are at the core of our business and that we deliver services that are both responsive to the needs of communities and individuals and promote social inclusion. Equality and diversity impacts on every aspect of our work

Equality and diversity drives the recruitment, development and retention of staff. It is our duty to provide a working environment that respects individuals and offers opportunities for staff to reach their full potential.

It influences our relationships with partners, other stakeholders, all the people we do business with and the communities we work in.

View our Equality and Diversity Strategy which provides a framework to ensure we deliver our regulatory, statutory and moral obligations on all equalities issues and that good practice in this area is reflected in the work that we do.

Please also view our Disability Equality Scheme and our Gender Equality Scheme for more information on our policies for equal opportunity.

Equality & Diversity Working Group

A staff working group which includes residents has been established at Family to assist in the development of our Equality and Diversity Strategy and act as champions in the promotion of equality and diversity issues across the Association. A regular bulletin ‘Diversity Matters’ provides all staff and Board members with an update on the groups’ progress.

Equality Impact Assessments

At Family we undertake Equality Impact Assessments of all our strategies, policies and procedures that are being implemented. Equality Impact Assessments examine the main functions and policies of an organisation to assess whether they have the potential to have different affects on different groups of people. We use the assessments to determine how they will affect people in the areas of race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation and religion or belief.
