  Beating the burglars

  Date   11th Jan 2007

Hall Green Constituency has launched an anti burglary initiative in all 4 of its wards - Moseley & Kings Heath, Springfield, Sparkbrook, Hall Green.

The new Burglary Reduction Partnership Initiative is co-ordinated by Family Housing Association (FHA), working in partnership with West Midlands Police and Hall Green Local Delivery Group (LDG) for Community Safety – part of the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership.

Funding was secured from various sources - Hall Green Local Delivery Group (LDG), Birmingham Community Safety Partnership, Police (E3 and E2) and Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (Springfield).

Referrals to the scheme can be made to Family Housing Association (FHA) for consideration by the project team. Contact: Sarah Nelson, 0121 - 766 1147.

Once a referral is made, a specialist worker will visit people's homes to offer advice, or to provide practical measures to protect people's homes. This may include door or window locks, memo cams, property marking kits or other interventions. The aim is to reduce burglary rates across the constituency by using detailed local analysis. The scheme will then provide the appropriate crime prevention into people's homes.

Andy Tipper, Birmingham City Council with PC Bastock, West Midlands Police and Andrew Thomas, Family Housing Association.

Inspector Richard Horton, West Midlands Police said, "It is even more important to protect your home at Christmas time, with expensive presents in the house. The message to communities everywhere should be to 'be safe' and beat the burglars. I firmly believe this scheme can help to achieve that."

Sarah Nelson, Family Housing Regeneration Officer, said, "This partnership project aims to protect as many people as possible, so they do not become a victim of crime. If you live in Hall Green constituency and want to refer either yourself or a neighbour for advice and possible support, please call our number (0121 766 1147)."

Chief Superintendent Jan Turner, also Chair of the Hall Green Local Delivery Group (LDG) said, "Our LDG, the constituency community safety group, is committed to reducing crime and works together in partnership to achieve results. This Burglary Reduction Initiative is just one example of a successful partnership in action, working together to tackle local priorities."
