A new ‘Green Doctor’ will soon be on call visiting homes in North-West Birmingham, providing energy and environmental health checks.
This in one of several Green Doctor projects being delivered throughout the city to help reduce fuel poverty and encourage more efficient use of resources in the home, such as waste and water. Family Housing Association (Birmingham) Ltd has been chosen to provide the Green Doctor service in the Summerfield area where they are currently working with the city council and local residents to install solar panels to over 300 homes for their Eco Neighbourhood project.

Andrew Thomas has been appointed as Family Housing’s Green Doctor after undertaking an extensive accredited energy advice training course and he will be on call from the beginning of December. Andrew said ‘I will be undertaking an energy assessment on all homes in our Summerfield Eco area to help give advice on how residents can be more environmentally friendly in their home. Also, if it is required, I will provide minor improvements to the home such as fitting energy efficient light bulbs and draught excluders.’
Summerfield residents will be receiving more information in the next few weeks about how to contact their new Green Doctor.
Groundwork Birmingham are the accountable body for the Green Doctor project, which has been funded by DEFRA until the end of March 2008.
