Chair of Family Housing Association (Birmingham) Ltd, Martin Chambers, has been appointed as Programme Director (Birmingham New Street) for Network Rail. He will therefore be responsible for the £500m ‘Gateway Project’ that will see the complete regeneration of Birmingham’s New Street station.
Martin Chambers, formerly Regional Director of Bovis Lend Lease, joined Network Rail in April and has extensive experience of delivering large-scale regeneration and construction projects including the landmark Millennium Point development in Birmingham.

Martin said ‘The ultimate aim of ‘Gateway’ is to provide Birmingham with a ‘world class’ station that also acts as a further catalyst towards the ongoing renaissance of the City. Work on site is planned to start during 2008 and should be completed by 2013. This is a fantastic opportunity for all the Partners (AWM, BCC, Centro, and Network Rail) associated with the Gateway project and is perhaps my biggest challenge yet, but I am convinced that the rebuilt station will provide Birmingham and the West Midlands region with a long term solution that we can be justly proud of.’
