Main Duties:
As a census coordinator (CO) you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the 2011 Census operation in an area. This includes managing a team of around 15 field staff. The emphasis will be on ensuring maximum coverage of the residential population, maintaining existing links and establishing new ones with local community groups and organisations to boost response.
You may also be enumerating certain establishments (such as prisons or MOD
bases) which will involve carrying, issuing and collecting bulk supplies of census questionnaires.
You will be provided with a laptop to scan questionnaires and receive and update system reports both in the field and at home. You will be responsible for supporting and motivating your team, ensuring their health and welfare and dealing with grievance, disciplinary and dismissal procedures. Appropriate support and guidance will be available. To help you carry out this work to a high standard you will receive detailed instructions and full training.
Capita Resourcing will be responsible for recruiting your team. You also need space to receive, check and store bulk supplies and distribute them to your team members.

Main Duties:
As a Special Enumerator (SE) you will be responsible for delivering 2011 Census questionnaires to communal establishments, such as care homes, hotels, student halls of residence and special population groups - and collecting them once completed.
Most of the work will be between 9am and 9pm Monday to Friday and 10am and 9pm at weekends. To help you carry out this work to the high standard required, you will receive detailed instructions and be fully trained. You will be part of a team reporting to a census coordinator (CO) while carrying out this role. The post involves working outside for most of your day visiting a number of addresses. You may need to climb stairs to reach some of these. You will need to carry with you a bag or trolley of spare questionnaires and other supplies. Completed questionnaires will need to be stored securely at your home until passed to your census coordinator.

As a Census Collector (CC) you will be responsible for contacting householders - knocking on doors or ringing doorbells - to follow up the non-return of 2011 Census questionnaires. This will involve face-to-face discussions to encourage the completion and return of census questionnaires and to offer help and assistance if required. You will be required to work at varied times including evenings and weekends.
To help you carry out this work to the high standard required, you will receive detailed instructions and be fully trained. You will be part of a team reporting to a Census Coordinator (CO) while carrying out this role. The post involves working outside for most of your day visiting a number of addresses. You may need to climb stairs to reach some of these. You will need to carry with you a bag of spare questionnaires and other supplies.
