Family Housing Association (Birmingham) Ltd has scooped 2006’s prestigious Master Builder of the Year Award for the Midlands Region with their first ever Eco Home. The deconverted Victorian property, which was officially opened in June this year by Ian Pearson, the Minister for Climate Change and David Bellamy
OBE, illustrates that social landlords can take the lead in promoting energy efficiency.

Tim Sewell, Chief Executive at Family Housing, said ‘It is fantastic for us to receive this award for our Eco Home. We set out to demonstrate how housing associations can help reduce the impact of climate change and by working with all our partners we have managed to convert a house in multiple occupation into a much needed family home, which includes all energy efficient measures such as solar panels, a wind turbine and a kitchen made from recycled material. We now hope to build on our experience and convert more properties like this throughout the city.’
Organised by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) the competition celebrates the work of the best builders in every corner of the UK.
