Mutual Exchange

Mutual Exchange

A mutual exchange involves two tenants swapping properties with one another.  An exchange can take place between any Registered Social Landlord or Local Authority tenants, you do not both have to be tenants of Family HA.

You may register your interest in an exchange by completing a mutual exchange advertisement card to advertise your own property and the type of property that you are looking for.  You should also look out for suitable exchanges by checking the notice board regularly and by checking the notice boards of other Housing Organisations.

Once you have found a property that you are interested in exchanging to, you should contact the Customer Services Team with details of your exchange. You will only be able to exchange with the permission of Family HA We will then carry out any necessary checks on both your tenancy and the person with whom you wish to exchange, we will not withhold permission unnecessarily, however if we are unable to agree to the exchange we will let you know the reason why.

We also work in partnership with Homeswapper which is the UK’s largest online mutual exchange service.  Homeswapper has a national list of all people looking for a mutual exchange.  As a tenant of Family Housing Association you can register with Homeswapper for free by completing the online registration form found at www.homeswapper.co.uk

Once you have registered with Homeswapper you will be able to advertise your own homes and you will receive a list of any matches that may be suitable for you to exchange with.
